New Albany, OH: New Albany Founders Day is pleased to recognized five outstanding athletic teams from New Albany High School for their impressive OHSAA State Championship wins in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

2019 New Albany High School Girls Golf Team

2019 Girls Golf

Coached by Rich Ritter, the team won the 2019 OCC Championship, Division 1 Central District Championship, and the OHSAA Division 1 State Championship.

They finished their season with a 229-0 record, their 2nd consecutive undefeated season. Anna Ritter won the OHSAA Individual State Championship, the first golfer in NAHS history to do so, with a tournament total of 138 (-2), and was joined on 1st Team All-Ohio by Madison Spiess 142 (+2) and Kary Hollenbaugh 143 (+3) marking. The team beat their own state single-day record on consecutive days setting the new mark of 282 and improving their own state two-day scoring record by 21 strokes with a tournament total of 571 to claim their 2nd consecutive OHSAA Division 1 State Championship.

Coached by Rich Ritter, the team won the 2020 OCC Championship, Division 1 Central District Championship, and the OHSAA Division 1 State Championship.

The team finished their season with a record of 177-1. Madison Spiess posted a two day total of 141 (+1) to claim the Individual State Title and 1st Team All State honors, along with Anna Ritter claiming 1st Team All State honors and Kary Hollenbaugh and Emerson Purcell earning 2nd Team All State honors. The team posted a two day score of 586 (+26) to claim their 3rd consecutive OHSAA Division 1 State Championship by 41 strokes.

2021 New Albany High School Boys Doubles Tennis

Devin C. Boyer and Ryan Mudre won the 2021 OHSAA Ohio State Doubles Champion title in tennis. Coached by Marc Thomas, Devin was named First Team All OCC and First Team All Ohio and Ryan were named OCC Player of the Year and First Team All Ohio.

Coached by Dave Starling, the 2021 NAHS Boys Baseball team completed their season with a 29-5 record, and won their third straight District Championship and Regional Championship, and won the OHSAA Division 1 Boys Baseball State Championship.

Coached by Dave Wharton, the 2020-2021 NAHS Varsity Girls Swim and Dive Team completed their season with an undefeated 4-0 record in dual meets, and finished as Central District Champions and Ohio Capital Conference Champions. Team members set four individual team records, two relay team records, two district relay records, put up sixteen All-Ohio State performances, and took two state championship relay titles. They defeated fifty other teams to be declared OHSAA Division 1 Varsity Girls Swim and Dive State Champions.

Founders Day has been celebrating New Albany and Plain Township’s history at its annual festival each year since 1976. The parade and festival welcome about 7,000 people each year and in 2020 it is moving to Rose Run Park. Founders Day is Saturday, May 16, 2020. The parade begins at 11:00 AM and the festival begins at 12:00 AM. A special dedication ceremony for Rose Run Park will take place at 10:30 AM.
